Bodley Lodge No. 1 Donates $1,400 to QUEST!

Quincy Equestrian Services and Therapy, NFP (QUEST) was honored to receive a $1,400.00 donation from the Bodley Lodge No.1.  On May 10th, the lodge hosted a spaghetti dinner that served over 200 people.  QUEST would like to extend our deepest appreciation to all the lodge members for their support of our organization.  QUEST is a 501(c)3 organization and uses all donations to help offset the cost of care for rescue and therapy horses.

QUEST offers therapeutic riding lessons on Tuesday evenings with NARHA certified instructors.  Please call 217-779-5000 for more information.  Thank you Darrell, Tina and all of the lodge members that donated their time for the spaghetti dinner.

QUEST becomes a NARHA Center Member!

It is with great pride and excitement that we announce that QUEST is now a NARHA Member Center (North American Riding for the Handicapped Association). We continue to move forward with our vision of providing therapeutic riding services to Quincy and the surrounding areas.

On June 3rd, 2010 from 6:00-8:30 p.m., there will be an informational meeting and orientation evening for parents, students and others who are interested in knowing more about this type of therapy service. We will be giving a tour of the facility and you can meet with our instructors, volunteers and the therapy horses.

Information packets will be available as well as the required forms that need to be filled out before participating in our program. Additional information about specific disorders and the benefits of therapeutic riding and experiential learning for that diagnosis will also be available.

The cost for each session will be 30.00. This is approximately 1/2 the cost to the center of providing the service. The additional costs will be provided through fundraising, donations and grants. On a limited basis, there will be partial and full scholarships available as our funding allows.

We look forward with hope and rising excitement to 2010 and the many opportunities that our NARHA Center Membership will provide.

More information about NARHA can be found at their website, www.narha.org.

QUEST was represented at the Dogwood Parade in Quincy Illinois on May 1st, 2010. We walked with the Autism Awareness Group and were accompanied by our patriotic miniature horses and a beautiful therapeutic equipped wagon beautifully driven by Karen Harper and pulled by her lovely Halflinger gelding. Our kids enjoyed passing out informational brochures about Autism and throwing plenty of candy to the crowd. The weather was lovely and we all had a wonderful time!

December, 2009

Quest attended the first annual Pet Expo that was held at the Oakley Lindsey Civic Center. We brought our therapy horse "Ania" and Becky Prunty brought her Miniature horse "Little Man". Our informational booth included a video presentation created by Lusage Marketing and Our Power Point presentation showed visitors what our therapy sessions look like as well as some of the volunteer opportunities. Becky created a display board listing the rescued horses and the ones we use for therapy. We had a coloring station with horse themed pages. Abigail and Courtni offered a fun guessing game. "Guess the Miniature's Registered Name". Becky had Little Man available for "Dress a Pony" and for $2.00 visitors could choose from a variety of dress up clothes and pretty up Little Man. and last by not least our most popular event... "Hand Print on a Horse". For a $2.00 donation visitors could dip their hand in paint (non-toxic and completely safe for Ania- I am a little overprotective of her) and place their colored hand print on her. Quest staff was always in attendance to ensure safety for both Ania and the visitor. We had a great time and and enjoyed the wonderful opportunity to meet and visit with everyone. I cannot thank everyone enough for all their hard work. Quest is a team organization. It has taken all of us coming together to create this wonderful organization.

Quest - very first fund raiser!!! On May 23rd we held our first annual Rummage for hay - garage sale. Thanks to the many thoughtful donors who cleaned out their closets and donated their items to our sale. We were able to raise $1293.00. We are planning another garage sale to hopefully sell very nice items that we still have. All clothing that did not sell was donated to the Salvation Army and some of the other large items that were too hard to move were donated to a local boy scout troop garage sale. Many thanks to everyone that worked countless hours to make our sale a huge success and also a big thank you to all of the wonderful people who donated items or purchased items that day.
